Quick reference for what goes where. Avoid contamination fines by sorting correctly.
General waste
What goes in your red lid bin. No recyclables, no food scraps, no hazardous items.
Recycling
Clean paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, glass, steel, aluminium. Rinse and flatten.
Green waste
Garden clippings, leaves, small branches. No plastic bags or soil.
Food scraps
Compostable organics. Use council-approved caddy liners or newspaper.
Bulky items
Furniture, mattresses, whitegoods. Book a collection or take to the tip.
Hazardous waste
Batteries, chemicals, paint, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs. Never in kerbside bins. Use council drop-off or hazardous waste collection.
E-waste
Phones, computers, TVs, cables, small appliances. Take to e-waste drop-off or book a collection. Data wiped at facilities.
Textiles
Clothing, towels, sheets, shoes. Donate if usable, or use charity bins. No wet or contaminated items.
